Is my music guaranteed to go live in all of the retail stores?
No. Each retailer has the right to refuse your release. Common reasons for rejection of a release include the recording/cover art being poor in quality (the cover art image is pixelated or the song files are corrupt or distorted), or a pre-existing release with the same UPC/ISRC information included.
Who is eligible for digital distribution?
All ReverbNation users with a management, label or artist account are eligible to use the Digital Distribution service.
Am I giving ReverbNation any rights to my music?
Nope! You are simply giving us the non-exclusive rights to submit your music to digital retailers on your behalf. The same terms and conditions that you agreed to when you registered for ReverbNation apply.
What if my music is placed at some retailers, but not all retailers? Do I get a refund?
No. We cannot guarantee that your release will go live in every retail store. Each retailer has the right to refuse your release. Common reasons for rejection of a release include the recording/cover art being poor in quality (the cover art image is pixelated or the song files are corrupt or distorted), or a pre-existing release with the same UPC/ISRC information included.
Do you offer volume discounts if I submit multiple releases for Digital Distribution?
Not at this time.
Is the Digital Distribution subscription fee a one-time fee?
No, it is a yearly fee. Your subscription will be renewed automatically each year that your release is in the retail stores.
When will my credit card be charged for distribution?
You will be charged for the first year immediately, with the annual renewal charged automatically once per year. You can check your renewal date at any time from within Control Room > My Home > Manage Premium Services.
If I cancel my subscription before the year is up, can I receive a pro-rated refund?
No.
I submitted and paid for my release but want to cancel the submission before it is delivered to the retailers. Can I do this?
Yes, but the Takedown Request fee will still apply, and we cannot provide a refund for the Digital Distribution subscription. See the Removal/Termination FAQ for more info.
Can I submit releases for Digital Distribution through my label’s account?
Yes, absolutely!

You must own the rights — or have been given prior, explicit permission by the rights owner — for all music you submit for Digital Distribution.
Do I own the rights to the music?
You should check your label contract or with your country’s copyright office to see if you own the rights. You MUST own the necessary rights to your music or have been given prior, explicit permission by the rights owner for all music you submit in order to use the Digital Distribution service.

How do I get paid?
All royalties received from the service provider are deposited into your ReverbNation Bank (Control Room > My Home > Bank) and can be withdrawn via PayPal. Currently, you must have a balance of at least $5 to withdraw funds. You can edit your PayPal information from within the ReverbNation Bank.
When do I get paid?
Payments are received once per month and detail the month that ended roughly 60 days prior. For example, if you receive sales in the month of January, they will be reported in the month of April. Some retailers, such as eMusic and Last.FM, report sales quarterly rather than monthly.
How much does ReverbNation make off of my sales?
ReverbNation does not take any percentage of the royalties that you earn!
Does the length of my songs affect the pricing?
In some cases, yes. If the song is over ten minutes in length, retailers such as iTunes will mark the song as being available for "Album Only" purchase. This means that the song will not be available for individual download but will instead only be available with a full album purchase.
Can I determine the price of my music in the retail stores?
Not at this time. Tracks are usually sold for $.99, while full length releases are sold for $9.99. EPs and other releases under ten tracks in length are usually sold at a price that depends on the number of tracks (i.e. a six-track release will likely sell for $5.99).
Are my sales reported to BMI, ASCAP, or any other performing arts organization?
No, you are responsible for paying any performing arts organization fees.
Are my sales reported to SoundScan?
Yes. Each retailer reports your sales to SoundScan.
How do I track sales of my music?
Official sales statistics can be tracked by viewing the Control Room > Stats > Earnings Report section of your account. You can also view weekly Trending Reports from iTunes and eMusic by visiting the Control Room > Distribution > Trending Reports section of your account.
What if someone else has submitted my music without my permission?
Contact us at support@eyecandy.com and make sure to include all relevant information.
My music is available in the retail stores and I know I've had sales. Why are my sales not showing up?
Sales stats are not reported in real time. Payments are received once per month and detail the month that ended roughly 60 days prior. For example, if you receive sales in the month of January, they will be reported in the month of April. Some retailers, such as eMusic and Last.FM, report sales quarterly rather than monthly.
My sales stats say that I had X number of track/album sales, but I didn't get paid very much. Why?
The amount that you receive for a sale varies by the retailer. Some retailers also pay very small amounts of money each time that your song is streamed in their store. You can check the payment chart above for more information.
Release / Song Submission
How many submissions do I get with a Digital Distribution subscription?
You can submit one release per Digital Distribution subscription. In order to submit an additional release, you will need to purchase an additional Digital Distribution subscription.
What is a "release"?
A “release” is what you submit to the retailers. You can submit a single, an EP, or a full-length album, but your submission is referred to as a “release.”
How many Digital Distribution subscriptions can I have?
You can have as many Digital Distribution subscriptions as you would like!
What format do my songs have to be in?
We can currently accept files in WAV format (44.1Khz, 16 bit samples, no compression), or MP3 format (44.1 kHz, 320 kbps).
NOTE: If you upload a WAV file with a higher bits per sample or sample rate, we will attempt to resample the track for you. However, you are responsible for making sure that the resulting audio is correct. If it is not correct, does not sound good to you, or you don't want us to resample your song; use the recommended WAV specifications. MP3 files will be converted to a WAV. As with WAV resampling, you are responsible for ensuring that the resulting WAV file is correct. Please listen to your tracks to ensure they are correct.
What is a WAV?
WAV files are large files that can be played on most of any computer or CD player. The WAV format is larger because it is "lossless," meaning it does not compress or discard any sound information. We recommend you set your ripping software to rip into the WAV format directly (16 bits per sample at 44.1Khz sample rate). You can also search the Internet for WAV converters, there are thousands, however we do not recommend converting from low-bit rate, "lossy" formats, to WAV, "lossless", format for the purposes of digital distribution.

Can I transfer the songs from my profile into the Distribution section?
No, you will need to re-upload the tracks in the Distribution section.
Can I transfer the songs from my Reverb Store into the Distribution section?
No, you will need to re-upload the tracks in the Distribution section. You can transfer your Digital Distribution release into the Reverb Store, though!
Why do I have to upload my songs separately for Digital Distribution?
The quality and file types used for your ReverbNation profile and for the Reverb Store will not always be the same as what is needed for Digital Distribution. Also, the meta-data requirements for Digital Distribution are different. To ensure that the files are in the correct format and contain all necessary information, we require that they be re-uploaded.
Can I specify the stores to which I would like my release to be delivered?
Not at this time.
Can I specify the geographical territories to which I would like my release to be delivered?
Not at this time.
What if my songs are already in some of the retail stores?
We suggest that you do not use multiple distribution channels for the same release. The release will be delivered to all retailers, and it is likely that a retailer will reject the release if it is already in their system. Be advised, though, that we cannot guarantee that the release will not be duplicated in these retail stores, and cannot be held responsible if it does. Please submit the release at your own risk.
Can I submit a release with explicit lyrics?
Yes, but you must indicate that the release has explicit lyrics when you submit your release.
What qualifies as explicit lyrics?
Each online retailer has their own definition of “explicit lyrics.” If you are unsure, we recommend marking the lyrics as explicit to be on the safe side.
If I submit an EP, is it counted as a release?
Yes.
If I submit a single, is it counted as a release?
Yes.
Can I submit a release with multiple primary artists (e.g. a compilation or soundtrack)?
No.
Can I list more than one primary artist on my release?
No, you must only list one primary artist (Ex. Scotty Reverb). Listing multiple primary artists (Ex. Scotty Reverb/Robert Jernigan or Scotty Reverb Feat. Robert Jernigan) will cause the release to be rejected by iTunes. Band names with a primary artist and their backing band (Ex. Scotty & The Reverbs) should not be an issue, though.
Can I submit a compilation with songs by various artists?
We cannot support distribution of compilations at this time.
What should I do if I want to submit a double-disc album?
We cannot currently support double-disc albums, but you can upload both discs as one release, or split the album into two separate releases.
Can I submit a digital booklet with my release?
Not at this time.
Can I add or remove tracks to my release after it has been submitted?
No. To add or remove tracks from a release, you will need to remove the album from the retailers, make the necessary changes, and then re-submit. Standard fees do apply.
How do I list the composer or featured artist information for my tracks?
While editing the individual track information, you can list featured artists, composers, etc. via the Contributor field.
My song features another artist. How can they be represented?
When editing the individual track information, you can list featured artists via the Contributor field. iTunes will display this information in the song’s title, but most other retailers will not display the information, but it will still be included in the song’s metadata.
If I have a release in the Classical genre, do I need to list the Composers?
Yes, iTunes requires that you list composers for each song that you submit.
The genre I submitted for my release does not match what some of the retailers are listing. Why is this?
Each retailer has their own set of genres so, while some retailers may list you under the exact genre that you submitted, others may add you to a similar genre if the genre that you chose is not an option in their store. The retailers have editorial discretion over the placement of your release so we unfortunately cannot change the genre for your release if a retailer chooses to list it under a similar genre.
Is the listing of song Composers required?
If you are submitting a Classical release, the Composers are required. If you are submitting a release in any other genre, the Composer is not required.
What information about my song will be displayed in my titles on the retail stores?
Your mix information will be displayed on all retailers, and your Featured Artists will be displayed on iTunes. iTunes is the only retailer that currently displays Featured Artists. Other contributors (Composers, DJs, Writers, etc) will not be displayed.
Will the Featured Artists that I list be displayed in my song titles?
Yes, iTunes lists the song's Featured Artists, but the other retailers do not currently list them.
What is the "mix" field?
This is an optional field where you can denote what mix of the song is being represented. For example, you can list that it is the “Demo Version,” the “Late Night Remix,” the “Radio Edit,” etc.
What are the requirements for my cover art?
Your cover art must
• Be in JPG, GIF, or PNG format
• Be at least 1000x1000 pixels in size (Please note that the aspect ratio of any file you upload will be altered so the picture is square and resized to 1000x1000 pixels.)
• Have the artist name and/or album title present
Your cover art must not
• Contain URLs, e-mail addresses, phone numbers
• Contain illegal or offensive material (nudity, drugs, extreme violence)
• Contain track titles or track information
• Contain copyrighted or trademarked material
For more assistance, check out our Cover Art Guide.
What if I don't have cover art for my release?
All releases must have cover art. We cannot assist in the creation of your cover art, unfortunately.
What is a UPC number?
A Universal Product Code (UPC) is a number (from 12 to 14 characters long) exclusively associated with your release. If you are like most of the Artists on ReverbNation, this is your first time publishing your music, which means you probably won't have a UPC. That's okay, we'll generate one for you for free! Retailers use the UPC as a unique identifier for your release and track and report all sales according to the UPC. Most published CDs have the UPC printed, along with the bar code form, on the back cover.
What is an ISRC number?
An International Standard Recording Code (ISRC) is a 12 character code that serves as a unique identifier for your songs. Each song has its own ISRC code, which is necessary for tracking and accounting purposes. If you already have an ISRC number for your song, you can use it. If not, ReverbNation will assign one for you for free!
Can I print the UPC code that ReverbNation assigns?
If ReverbNation is assigning you a UPC code, the number will be provided in the Distribution section of your Control Room. You can take the number that we provide to various online locations and print the UPC bar code from there. Here are a few places that you can try: http://www.barcodesinc.com/generator/ or http://www.barcoding.com/upc/
Does it cost extra for you to generate my UPC/ISRC codes?
No.
How quickly will I receive my UPC/ISRC information?
Your UPC/ISRC information will become available within 2-3 weeks of your submission and will be added to the Distribution section of your Control Room.
What if I already have my own UPC?
You can use it! You will be prompted for the UPC code when you set up your release.
Where do I find the UPC code on my CD?
Your UPC code is located at the bottom of your bar code. A UPC consists of 12 to 14 digits. The first digit (from the left) is the UPC type. The next five digits are the Manufacturer code. The following five digits are the product code which is assigned by the manufacturer. The final digit is the check digit. Example UPC Code.
What is a catalog number?
A catalog number is the identification number a record label assigns to a release. If you are on a label, your label will assign your release a catalog number. If you do not have a catalog number, ReverbNation will assign you one for free!
What if I have a specific release date?
If you have a specific release date, you an enter it in the “Release Date” field. If you have a future release date, the retailers will also honor that. However, visibility of your release before the release date depends on the retailer. In some cases, you can view the album art, and in other cases the album is completely hidden from all customers until the date arrives. We recommend submitting the release at least 6-8 weeks before the desired release date to ensure that it goes live when it should. The retailers should never release the album early, but we cannot guarantee that they will not be late.
Can you distribute physical copies of my release to the retailers?
Not at this time.
Can I sell physical copies of my release?
Physical distribution is not currently available through the Digital Distribution service. This is an option, however, in the Reverb Store!
I made a mistake with my submission. What do I do?
After your music is submitted, you cannot make any changes to your release. You will have to remove the release from the retailers, make the appropriate changes, and re-submit. Standard fees do apply. PLEASE double and triple check your release before submitting it!
How long will my release be available?
Your release will be available for as long as you are subscribed to the Digital Distribution service.
How long will it take for my release to appear in the retail stores?
Each retailer follows its own reviewal process, so the time it takes varies. Here is what you can expect:
• Major retailers such as iTunes will begin carrying the release within 4–6 weeks of submission.
• Most retailers will begin carrying the release within 3–6 weeks of submission.
• Some retailers, such as Spotify and MediaNet, can take up to 6–8 weeks to begin carrying the release.
Please note that these time frames are just averages; we cannot guarantee when or if each store will begin carrying your release.
How do I know when my releases are actually live?
iTunes is currently the only retailer that sends notification when your release goes live. For now, you will need to search periodically on the other retail sites to verify your live status.
Will my album be available for purchase in all countries?
If a store is currently available in a particular country, your release will be made available in the store. We deliver to iTunes Worldwide, for example, so if the iTunes Music Stores is available in a particular country, your release will be available for purchase in that country’s iTunes Music Store.
After I upload my music, what changes can I make?
After your music is submitted, you cannot make any changes to your release. You will have to remove the release from the retailers, make the appropriate changes, and resubmit. PLEASE double and triple check your release before submitting it!
Now that my music is live in the retail stores, can I edit the information that they display about my band/release?
The retailers do not provide the option to edit your band's information/photos/etc. Many retailers pull this type of information from sites such as ArtistData.com and AllMusic.com (AMG), though, so make sure your profiles on these sites are updated (if you have one on them).
Someone else has my band name. Will this affect my royalties?
The UPC for your release is what is used to track and pay for sales. The similarity of your band's name to another band's name may result in your release being coupled with theirs in the retail stores or may create potential trademark infringement issues, but it should NOT immediately affect your ability to use this service, and will definitely not affect your royalty payments.
What does my release status mean?
These are the various release statuses you may see:
StatusMeaning/DurationNot SubmittedYour release still needs to be validated and submitted.Ready for SubmissionYou have validated your release, and it is ready to be submitted.Payment PendingYour release has been validated, but you have not yet paid for Digital Distribution.SubmittedYour release has been submitted to ReverbNation. Please check the Removal/Termination section for more information.AbandonedYour release has been Abandoned. Please check the Removal/Termination section for more information.
My release is already online through another company. Can I also distribute the release with ReverbNation or transfer it to ReverbNation?
We suggest that you do not use multiple distribution channels for the same release. The release will be delivered to all retailers, and it is likely that a retailer will reject the release if it is already in their system. Be advised, though, that we cannot guarantee that the release will not be duplicated in these retail stores, and cannot be held responsible if it does. Please submit the release at your own risk.
ReverbNation Integration
Now that my release is on a retailer, how do I promote it?
You can promote your release through many of the tools and services provided to you by ReverbNation. For example, check out the Store Links feature in the Earn Money section of your artist control room! You can also alert fans of your release by sending them an e-mail through FanReach!
Can I use Street Teams to generate sales?
Of course! Announce a mission to help spread your Tune Widget, which includes the STORE tab. This tab links anyone interested in purchasing your music to the appropriate places. The STORE tab will be populated with the links you provide in the Store Links section of your Control Room.
Do my Digital Distribution sales affect my Band Equity Score on ReverbNation?
Digital Distribution has no direct relation to your Band Equity Score, but increased traffic caused by your release being in the retail stores can certainly be beneficial.
Can my music sales be incorporated into my Reverb Press Kit?
Not at this time. We hope to have this option in the future.
How does distribution relate to Fair Share?
Digital distribution has no relation to, and therefore does not affect, Fair Share.
Trending Reports
What is a Trending Report?
A trending report is a weekly update from iTunes and eMusic that shows unofficial sales activity for those two retailers during a given week. Only sales within the last 90 days are shown on the trending report and new data is added weekly. Official sales data from retailers is updated once per month (approximately 60 days after the end of each month).
Where can I find my Trending Reports?
You can find the reports in the Control Room > Distribution > Trending Report section of your account.
Can I download my Trending Report data?
Yes. When you open your trending report you'll see an Export button. Click that to download your report.
In what format is my trending report download?
The file that you receive will be in a CSV format. Microsoft Excel and other common programs can open these files.
How often are Trending Reports made available?
Trending reports are updated when received from eligible retailers such as iTunes.
Will I be notified when I have a new Trending Report?
Yes. You will be sent an email notification when you have new sales data.
Can I receive Trending Reports from other retailers?
No. iTunes and eMusic are the only retailers offering this service at this time.
I had a Trending Report that listed sales, but the official sales report doesn't show those sales. Why?
Trending reports are unofficial data and are in no way the final sales information from the retailer. Discrepancies can occur between a trending report and a sales report for many reasons. In some cases the missing sales will appear in the next month’s sales report.
My Trending Report says I have sales. Can I be paid now?
No. We do not pay out for sales until we receive the official sales reports from the retailers. Sales reports are received once per month, and the report details the month that ended roughly 60 days prior.
I did not receive a Trending Report, but I know I had sales. What happened?
Trending reports are not official reports, so all sales may not be indicated. Please wait until the official sales report is made available to see if your sale appears. Sales reports are received once per month, and the report details the month that ended roughly 60 days prior.
Removal or Termination
How do I remove an album from the retailers?
Head to the Distribution section of your Control Room, click "View" next to the appropriate release, then click the "Remove From Retailers" button. The fee for taking down a release is $15.00 for the Essentials Package or $30.00 for the Pro Package, none of which is kept by ReverbNation.
Note: 100% of the normal takedown fee goes to our digital distribution service partners. In order to keep this fee as low as possible, ReverbNation does not include its customer service or takedown management costs in these fees.
If I terminate my ReverbNation account, can I keep my Digital Distribution subscription?
No.
What happens if I fail to make a yearly payment or my credit card is declined?
You will be given 30 days to remedy the situation. If you do not provide an active credit card within the remedy period or pay the necessary takedown fees, ReverbNation will then consider the release 'abandoned'. The email account on record will be notified that the release has been abandoned.
What happens when my release is “Abandoned”?
ReverbNation will earn all royalties from sales of your music. At any time, ReverbNation may decide to take down the release either with or without notification to the user. While abandoned, and at any time prior to a takedown order, the user can reinstate their subscription by re-subscribing to the Digital Distribution service. If you wish to remove the abandoned album from retailers, you must pay for a Takedown Request, which is $29.95 for the Essentials Package or $44.95 for the Pro Package.
How do I take down/reinstate an abandoned release if I have deleted my ReverbNation profile or can't recover my password?
Please contact support@reverbnation.com and we will be happy to assist you!
Note: 100% of the normal take-down fee goes to our digital distribution service partners. In order to keep this fee as low as possible, ReverbNation does not include its customer service or take-down management costs in these fees.

Account Set Up / General

Your cover art must not
• Contain URLs, e-mail addresses, phone numbers
• Contain illegal or offensive material (nudity, drugs, extreme violence)
